The Winter Sidus Dei Ludos, also known as the Winter SDL, is a major international multi-sport competition held once every two years, beginning in the year 1917 and continuing every other year since then. The Winter SDL is currently held from December 1st to December 14th each year, however in the past the dates were much later, into January. In 2015, the Sidus Dei Ludos Administrative Committee made a pivotal decision regarding the Winter SDL, deciding that the formerly scheduled 2021 games would be held in 2022, and that depending on the success of the 2022 games, the Winter and Summer SDL may be held every 3 years in the future.

The most recent Winter SDL was held in Corumminius, New Sketherlands, and the medal table was topped by the United States of Quentin. In each Sidus Dei Ludos event, competitors are awarded diamond, gold, and silver medals based on their performances, going down in value from diamond to silver, and the nation with the most overall medals at the end of competition is referred to as at the "top of the table," and receive the Ceremonial Ice Rock, taken from the site of the SDL host city.

The Winter Sidus Dei Ludos are smaller than the Summer Sidus Dei Ludos, however have increased dramatically in scope and attention since they were founded in 1917. Today, just under 900 athletes compete at the Winter SDL every 2 years, and every nation in the Venturian Union, 32 in all, competes in the events of the Winter SDL. Quentinian Daniel Stevenson is credited with founding the modern Sidus Dei Ludos in 1916, attempting to reconcile nations and their relations after the Great Venturian War. In 1917, Stevenson proposed a separate winter games, especially for those in colder climates, and the Winter Sidus Dei Ludos began with four events in its first year. Since then, it has expanded to 14 events, with medals for each event. The Sidus Dei Ludos continued through the Greater Venturian War, although they were held on a much smaller scale, and after the war countries quickly regained funding for the Sidus Dei Ludos, especially after the creation of the Venturian Union. After the war, the Megatridimensional Civil War had a large effect on the hosting process and the field of nations, however competition still existed, much more so than the Summer SDL, which were dominated by the USQ during the civil war. Like the Summer SDL, nations have used the Sidus Dei Ludos as proof of the success of their national ideologies or identity, and in the past the Sidus Dei Ludos have been used as a political tool, with the Venturian Union thrice banning teams from the Winter SDL due to political infringements. Due to its competitive nature, however, no country has ever boycotted the winter games.

The hosting process for the Winter SDL is controversial, with many in the public and media saying it has a biased selection process, however experts have countered that the cost and logistical issues of hosting a Sidus Dei Ludos means less countries are willing to host the games, although this hasn't been proven. The only nations which have not hosted the Winter SDL and are not scheduled to host it are Atillaraon, Fyñe, the Isle of Southia, Kalsomonia, the Nista Federation, Paladinia, the Sacred Watch, Telembria, the United Villages of Southia, Vidgmar, and the Zwakazi Alliance. Of these, only 4 or 5 are actually eligible because of the climate requirements for the Winter SDL, needing snow and cold climates to operate. The upcoming Sidus Dei Ludos of 2022 and 2026 are scheduled to be hosted by Atlantea, in the Azurian Isles, and Wanasmashi, in Gallanathia, respectively. Mechanicsburg has hosted the most Winter SDL's for a city so far, with 6.

The only nation to have competed in all Winter Sidus Dei Ludos is the Sovereignty of Drumes, because of the interruption of the Greater Venturian War. The only nation to have won at least one diamond medal at all Winter Sidus Dei Ludos is the United States of Quentin, also the only nation to finish in the top 3 every year, although both these statistics do not include the years absent for the Greater Venturian War. The USQ is followed on the all-time medal table by Bymaria, Docneighland, and New Sketherlands respectively. The Sidus Dei Ludos Administrative Committee made a pivotal decision on the future of the games in 2015, deciding that future Winter Sidus Dei Ludos would take place every 3 or 4 years, instead of every two, depending on a test run set in action by the 2022 games.
