The Iridium Coast, also known by the country's constitution as the Republic of the Iridium Coast, is the westernmost country on the Zwakazi continent, bordering the Nista Federation of States to the east, and the Strait of Iridium to the west. The country is currently home to 340.75 million people, a medium size for countries on Venturia. Its GDP and economy are average, with the country having a $512.56 billion GDP. Its capital is Iridium City, which is also the capital of the Liberatiion state, however its largest city by population is currently Port Affalevavaa, a part of the Beffellow Coast state. In addition to Beffellow Coast and Liberatiion, the country has two other states, Capijuana and the Mellontic Mountain Region (MMR), with states being integral to the nation's system of federalism. Besides incorporating federalism into its government structure, the Iridium Coast is a republic, with its federal laws being made by the popularly elected National Congress, and its laws being carried out by its President.
The Iridium Coast has an important ancient history, as it was the place of origin for most humans on Venturia. After a short ice age, the human population was able to expand from the Iridium Coast deeper into the Zwakazi continent, and also cross the Strait of Iridium to settle the Asper continent. The settlers of the country first became organized around 300 A.D., attempting to resist settlers and raiders from the Allian Empire who had been encroaching on Iridite land. This was a loose organization however, and by 1495, as the Allian Empire was collapsing, the land came under the control of the Nista Federation. In 1583, the country banded together once more to resist the rapid oppression of the country by Nistan law, and declared its independence from Nista. In scattered fighting called the Iridium Homeland Skirmishes lasting from 1583 until 1611, the country was gradually won back from Nistan settlers. In 1611, the National Congress was created, and by 1639 they had installed the first monarch of the country, who ruled with the consent of the Congress. In 1785, the War of Gulf and Straits began, leading to the monarchy's decline, which ended after the Iridium Civil War. The civil war ended with a Chancellor being declared. After a period of poverty in the 1800's, the country embarked on a period of rapid industrialization in the 1920's and 1930's, rapidly growing the country's economy. In 1955 the Chancellor was replaced with a President, and in 1995 the country ratified its Constitution.
The Iridium Coast is one of the more diverse countries in the world, in its ethnics and in its traditions. This is as it was on the fringe of Allian development during the Allian Empire, making it more Asperian than other Zwakazian nations, though less so than New Sketherlands. Additionally, it has developed the same Zwakazian culture as other nations on the continent, and the fusing of these traditions and ethnic practices have made for a unique political system. Today the country has an average economy, however is high on the list of living conditions. It is a member of the Venturian Union, and is a prominent member of the Asperian Trade and Defense Organization. Through this alliance, the country has access to nuclear weapons protections, though its own military is average in size and strength. The nation plays an important role today in world politics, having high tensions with its neighbors the Nista Federation and Megatridimensional Order, the latter of which is west of the Strait of Iridium.
