The Azurian Isles, also sometimes known as Azuria, is a technocratic island nation located in the southwest portion of the Lankanata Ocean. One of the most isolated countries in the world, the Azurian Isles was first founded in 912, with the six tribes of the islands joining together in a defense and commerce pact. In 1100 the isles were officially joined together in union under the Charter of Azuria. The country borders no other nation directly, however is located closest to the Comdantri Nortellus and Megatridimensional Order, which are to the north. The Azurian Isles has a population of 11.3 million, making it the second-least populated country in the Venturian Union. Its isolationism stems from its physical distance from any mainland, however also the Isles' devotion to technology and values of distrust towards outsiders.

Government and Politics

The government of the Azurian Isles is based around the Charter of Azuria ratified by the six tribes and isles in 1100, however also incorporates laws and acts from the Tribal Agreement of 912, the 2005 Global Amendments, and basic legislative acts throughout history. The Charter of Azuria establishes first that the government of the Isles should be based upon technology and the wisdom of leaders, and that while the democratic will of the people is important in eliminating corruption, the expertise of leaders should be the first priority. The first specifics established by this document include the National Kyoku, the main national legislative body, and the Chief Executor. The Kyoku makes all main laws for the nation, and consists of 50 individuals elected by the people. The candidates for these offices, however, are chosen based upon results from a number of tests concerning many subjects such as science, economics, governance, and technology. These candidates are then ranked based on these tests, and only the top two for each position are allowed to run. Tests are determined by the nation's National University each election period. The Leader of the Kyoku is the elected legislator who has the highest score on all the major electoral tests. Additionally, the Kyoku can declare war, raise money and taxes, command the military, (though this task is usually delegated to the Chief Executor) and act as the supreme court of the nation.

The Chief Executor is also elected in this way, however there is only one Chief Executor. The Chief Executor leads the Azurian Hoikoana Board, made up of five other executors, plus the Chief Executor for a total of six. This board implements the laws passed by the Kyoku, and all executors on it are elected based upon their expertise, especially in specific areas of governance. In the case of a tie on how to proceed in terms of executing laws and making executive policy, the Chief Executor decides what actions should be taken.

Though the individual isles of the Azurian Isles are called sovereign isles and tribes, they have little autonomy. The one main right the isles have is the right to verify their allegiance to the union every 75 years, meaning that they may secede after any 75 year period if they do not like the direction of the Azurian national government or its policies. Additionally, the individual isles may convene sovereign assemblies to raise taxes or make decisions on smaller issues such as community trash collection and recreational areas. Overall though, the national government handles most issues in the nation, including education, recreation, war, politics, the environment, labor laws, commerce, social services and laws, etc.
