Carkhia is a country located in the far northwest of the Asper continent. The country's four states and three federal island provinces stretch from the Gulf of the Ortusolis in the northeast down into the Fourth Laborer Passage and the Nyoka Ocean to the west. The country shares its only border with Bymaria to the southeast, however also shares a maritime border with the Fourth Laborer Socialist Republic to the west, across the Fourth Laborer Passage. Both borders are tense and strictly guarded. The nation covers a total of 629,894 square kilometers, making it an averaged sized country. Its capital city is Drylliad, with Fatherswood, Isel, and Libeth also being major population centers.
The country was first settled by tribal peoples in the B.C. era, however soon organization arose under the religious Old Carkhian Kingdom around 560 B.C. The country was overtaken by the Allian Empire around 200 B.C, and became a protectorate of the empire until its downfall in 1500 A.D. After the empire's dissolution, Jaron Carkhan I was crowned the first King of Carkhia since the old kingdom, reigning over the newly reunited nation. After this reunification in 1503, Carkhia took part in the Age of Refutation and relative era of peace that reigned across Asper in the 1500's, trading efficiently with foreign Asperian and Zwakazian nations. The 17th and 18th centuries brought an age of exploration, with Carkhian explorers documenting the Fourth Laborer Passage in particular, as well as a period of instability and war, especially against Bymaria in the Bymarian-Carkhian Border Wars, the Kingly Wars, the Trade War of 1659, and the Asper War of Southia. The 19th century was more peaceful, with industrialization in Carkhia and Bymaria bringing trade cooperation like that seen in the 16th century, as well as major modernization.
In 1893, the Carkhian War of Accession left the kingdom in major ruin, with the king being extremely unpopular. After the Great Venturian War led to more Carkhian devastation, the Carkhian War of Succession occurred in 1913, with provinces of the country declaring active defiance to the king and bringing forces against Drylliad, the only remaining loyal province. The war resulted in victory for the revolting provinces, resulting in a short military rule followed by the creation of the Constitution of Carkhia in 1915. This formally resulted in the country becoming a democratic Mild Republic, based upon the government structure of the United States of Quentin. The Greater Venturian War in 1925 greatly tested the military and new government of the country, and the nation's victory upheld Carkhian democracy for the rest of the 20th century and to this day.
Today, Carkhia is still a Mild Republic, capitalist state, with the President of Carkhia acting as the head of state and head of the executive branch of the nation. The Carkhian Joint House-Congress is the bicameral national legislature of the nation, split into the House of Carkhia and the Congress of Carkhia, and the Supreme Court of Carkhia oversees the nation's federal justice system. The nation is also a federal state, with the national government and state governments each retaining some powers of government. The nation's main language is Allian, and its economy is modern and advanced, with a GDP of $898.79 billion and a population of 174 million. Education, quality of life, stability of government, and human development are all high compared to other nations, though the nation is among the least ethnically diverse in the world. Carkhia's economic ties with the Zwakazi continent have had a major impact on the nation's politics, and its longstanding rivalry with Bymaria continues to this day. Carkhia is a member of the Venturian Union, and is also a member of the Asperian Trade and Defense Organization. Carkhia also has membership in other international organizations such as GECO, the Sidus Dei Ludos, and the Association for the Cooperation of International Trade.

History
War of Succession and Greater Venturian War
Due to the economic ruin and instability caused by the Great Venturian War, province governments were quickly staffed by anti-monarchy officials, with the dukes of the various provinces being lobbied nonstop for change in the government. After secret meetings in early 1913 between dukes, 9 of the 14 provinces declared open defiance of the king, mobilizing armies against Drylliad. Four additional provinces, who were not a part of the secretive 1913 meetings, declared defiance in March and April. Finally, in summer of 1913, the combined armies of the 13 revolting provinces marched on Drylliad, overtaking the city and capturing the king.
