The Comdantri Nortellus is a small nation located in eastern Asper, bordering the Megatridimensional Order to the north, Mortification to the west, and the Lankanata Ocean to the south and east. The nation's mainland makes up the bulk of its area, however the large, eastern Comdantri Islands just off the coast of the mainland also contribute to its area of 965,784 square kilometers. The nation is a unitary state, and due in part to its relatively small population of 88 million, it has no local forms of government. The seat of the national government and the largest city is Comdantri, and other major cities include Callaghanis, located on Rufos Island, Nage City close to the Megatridimensional border, and Orpomeh on the banks of the River Traide.

Comdantri Nortellus was originally settled by peoples of the Asperian tribal ethnicity, who organized themselves among small villages and tribes, and were related to the other tribal people in the area in terms of government, tradition, etc. These people included the Viscuito, the Ughlugh, the Terronian, and the Jesurite tribes, among others. With the formation of the Allian Empire in 300 B.C, however, the Comdantri peoples were forced under Allian rule in 500 A.D. after much continuous conflict. After the fall of the empire in 1500, the Comdantri peoples decided to unite to protect from future occupation, signing the Comdantri Unity Declaration in 1501. Organization was still little, but tribal councils established throughout the land centralized rule to a small degree. In the 1600's the nation became more centralized, with a King being declared in 1650 to defend against encroaching Asperian nations such as Telembria and Allia.

After the monarchy was declared, Comdantri grew substantially, however continued to deal with the larger and more powerful Asperian neighbors, including the newly formed Megatridimensional Order in the 1800's. Comdantri was able to industrialize to a degree in the 1800's, however not to the extent of the other powers, leaving it still without effective defenses. With the start of the Great Venturian War in 1900, the monarchy attempted to gain land and influence by siding with the Righteousness Pact, however even after victory the Comdantri were given little. The country switched sides for the Greater Venturian War, and again gained very little from the war. The Megatridimensional Order's Southern March after the war resulted in the Comdantri becoming neighbors with the Order, though the Order stopped short of invading Comdantri itself. This new threat brought a desire for political change, and after working peacefully with his advisers and others, the King stepped down from the throne after helping to create the Constitution of the Comdantri Nortellus.

After becoming a republic, the country has become much more democratic and free on civil liberties, with the Venturian Union ranking them high on their index of world democracy. In the Comdantri unitary republic system, the President controls the executive branch, with the Comdantri Council acting as the legislature, and the Speaker of the Council having little power, though the Council as a whole has major legislative powers. The system of courts is substantial, however the highest national court is attached to the Comdantri Council, as the Comdantri Council of Justice. In addition to this high level of democracy, Comdantri citizens also enjoy high economic freedom, high quality education, and universal healthcare. However, the Comdantri Nortellus is still considered to be an underdeveloped nation, with levels of poverty and a small economy. Standard of living is also low, though better than in neighboring Mortification or countries such as Trigadia.

Ethnic diversity in the country is low, with the nation having strict limits on immigration and a population largely made up of Asperian tribal peoples. Despite this, ethnicity is much more complicated in the Comdantri Nortellus than other places in the world due to its history of tribal and Aspkausian influence. Internationally, the Comdantri Nortellus is one of the most neutral nations, not becoming involved in any major disputes. A member of the Venturian Union and General Economic Cooperation Organization, the Comdantri does tend to have a close relationship with small countries such as Sacred Watch and the countries which make up the Alliance of Island Nations, recently vying for membership in the alliance itself.

History

Describing tribes and origins, the Comdantri Nortellus was originally made up of small groups of people of the Asperian tribal ethnicity. These included all the tribes listed above, however all Asperian tribal people living in Comdantri were referred to as Comdantri peoples after 1501. In 1940, the Order halted the Southern March of the Republic rather than displace or assimilate the Comdantri Nortellus civilization. The decision to end the March was a key component of the Megatridimensional Civil War, and allowed the Comdantri to live on, becoming a haven for tribal peoples and one of the only still-independent states governed on the basis of tribal principles, with tribal roots.

Population and Ethnicity

The total population of the Comdantri Nortellus is currently estimated at around 88,760,000 as of 2021. This means that the nation has the 26th-largest population on Venturia, ahead of only six other nations. The birth rate of the nation is high, however immigration restrictions mean the nation is currently growing at an average rate. Population density in the country is low, one of the lowest in the world.

Relating to ethnicity, the nation of Comdantri Nortellus has one of the more complicated ethnic situations of any Venturian nation. Originally, groups of Asperian tribal peoples populated the country, with these people being of Aspkausian ethnicity. However, as the nation formed, many people of the Jumange and Gadoupe ethnicities immigrated and mixed with the tribal population, thus ensuring that people of tribal origin are not necessarily Aspkausian. Ethnicity in the country can be split two ways. The first is to group all people of Asperian tribal origin together, so that the country is made up of 81% Comdantri peoples, those people who have roots in the Asperian tribal ethnicity and who identify either as Aspkausian, Jumange, or Gadoupe. Based on this same grouping, the latter 19% is made up of people tracing their origin to other nations, including 5% Allian, 7% Mortifican/Megatridimensional, 6% Zwakazian, and 1% Northern Asperian/other.

An alternative ethnic grouping is to group all people by standardized ethnicity, and also distinguish Asperian tribal peoples as a separate category. This means that the nation is made up of 44% Aspkausians, 26% Gadoupes, 21% Jumanges, and 9% Zwakanavs. Separately, of the entire population, 75% of people identify as Asperian tribal. This is lower than the 81% reported above, as "Comdantri peoples" takes into account people of Allian Empire origin or other ancient origin not of the tribes. Either way, ethnicity in the country is dominated by those of Asperian tribal origins, though this group is diverse in terms of skin color (Aspkausian, Gadoupe, Jumange) and not in terms of culture, identity, and tradition.
