The Lindin Founders are a professional Roofball team in The Quentinian Roofball Organization. They are a part of The Eastern Roofball Conference, and in The ERC Northeast with The Jameisville Elves and The Fort McCarthy Liberators. They have won The QRO Champions Cup twice, in 1955 as well as 1978, and they play in the city of Lindin. Currently their head coach is Brian Lindsaya, and their owner is Jack Jekzxson.

History

1940's and 50's

The Founders were founded in 1945, by their first owner, Madelyn Maxxoln. Early in the history of the franchise, the team was exceedingly good, and managed to draft Penetraman Steverina Valsxks, a future Hall of Champions player. In 1955 the team won their first Champions Cup, and the MVP of the game was Valsxks. They won the ERC Title only once in the decade, in 1955, however managed to make the Tournament multiple times and win the division as well, battling throughout the decade with the Fort McCarthy Liberators for the top spot in the division. It was also during this decade that the Founders were first included in what was called the All-Quentinian Cup at the time, but which has changed its name to the Founders Traditional Cup, a reference not to the Founders' team name, but to the founding cities of the nation. The Founders have been in the running for the game every year since then.

1960's

In the 1960's the Founders still had quite a good team of professionals, including tough tussler Sean Demone, however could not get past the better teams in the ERC at the time, except for 1962, when they won the ERC title. In the 1962 QRO Champions Cup they lost to the Rodriguezville Ravagers by a score of 162-90, one of the lowest scoring games in history. They also managed to dominate their division during the '60s, winning 6 out of the 10 titles that decade. It was also during this decade that the Founders developed their rivalry with the Verisitium Vipers, playing multiple heated and intense regular season games against the Vipers. On one occasion in 1967, Vipers fans brought actual vipers to the Founders stadium, and security had to remove the animals, which prompted the Founders fans to bring shotguns to the Vipers' stadium the next game the two played, however they were removed from the stadium after the first minute of the game. This rivalry, while less intense today, still continues in the present.

1970's

The 1970's overall was not a good decade for the Founders. They lost most of their players to free agency in 1968 and 1969, and seemed to be lacking in any defensive talent. They did manage to win numerous Founders Traditional Cups during the decade, though, and in 1975 drafted Clint Gailson, a starterman who soon became one of the most popular players of the decade. He did numerous ads for companies across the nation, and for 6 straight years his jersey was the bestselling in the country. With Gailson and wide-out Bruce Darnell, the team won their second Champions Cup in 1978, playing against the Kumar City Shock, who had one of the youngest coaches in the nation at the time, Lacie Yadell. The Founders dominated the game offensively, and won 410-290.

1980's through 2000's

After the success of the 70's, in 1983 Gailson was released after multiple bad seasons, and in 1984 Darnell was injured, and retired. After recovering from these losses, the Founders were quite good late in the decade, but never rose to any greater success than winning their division multiple times, with the success of the Minersville Miners proving to be a significant roadblock multiple times. In the 1990's this mediocrity seemed to continue, with new coach Lewis Bree bringing in an aggressive new style of defense, but not many results. 1993 was the best year of the decade, with the Founders winning the ERC title game and advancing to the Champions Cup. However the new, aggressive defense of Bree was exposed by the Poleton Gangsters and their stoic coach Danny Marze. This resulted in a loss for the Founders, 515-380.

At the start of the 2000's, the team hired another new coach, Remus Johnson, who had previously coached for Red Forest University, one of the most successful programs in the history of college Roofball. He brought the Founders to the title game in 2003, however lost to the Verisitium Vipers in one of the most crushing defeats in Founders history, with a close score of 340-310 ending the 2003 QRO Champions Cup game. In 2007, Johnson and elite players Jamie Quentin and Lott Brakens won the title game once again, however lost once again in the Champions Cup to the Shock, 415-370. In 2016 Johnson was fired, and replaced by Brian Lindsaya, who delivered results in 2018 by winning the ERC title game, facing the Port Landavisislanders Preachers in the Champions Cup, and losing 350-315. Today the Founders are still great competitors, and this past season in 2019 the Founders did not win the division, however made the Tournament as the sixth seed.

Rivalries

Verisitium Vipers

The largest and most storied rival of the Lindin Founders is the Verisitium Vipers. Though the distance of the two teams is great, during the 1960's the two teams played a number of regular season games that were extremely tense and heated, with Vipers fans bringing actual Vipers to a Founders home game, and then Founders fans bringing a shotgun to the Vipers home game weeks later, both of which were immediately confiscated. That rivalry has continued on and grown, especially after the 2003 QRO Champions Cup game, which the Vipers won in a close battle. Scheduling the past 30 or so years have made the two teams play twice per year, and the fanbases of each organization attempt to outdo each other each year by bringing various items and signs to games. Vipers fans bring black towels and signs, and Founders fans bring green or yellow towels, along with signs and Quentinian flags. The Vipers have the edge to the all-time series, though it is close, and the rivalry is one of the most intense and relevant in the league today.

Jameisville Elves

The rivalry with the Jameisville Elves is also a significant rivalry, mainly because of Jameisville's proximity to Lindin, and the divisional battles between the two four times per year. The rivalry is not more significant perhaps because of the irrelevance and lack of success the Elves have had throughout their history. The Founders lead the Elves in the all-time rivalry record by a significant margin.

Fort McCarthy Liberators

The Founders also have a divisional rivalry with the Fort McCarthy Liberators, who have been their closest competitors in the division for most of the team's history. The Founders have the edge over the Liberators in the all-time record, and the two teams play each other each year, often at the end of the season in games that are for the lead in the division, and in 2019 the Founders lost the division by only 4 games to the Liberators.

Logos and Uniforms

Logos

The Founders logo is simply the Flag of the United States of Quentin, which was chosen with the creation of the team in 1945. The owner of the team at the time, Madelyn Maxxoln, served in the Quentinian military during the Greater Venturian War, and was a huge patriot and lover of the nation. He created the team to reflect the nation, and based it in Lindin, which besides being a large city was the first city founded in the United States of Quentin. The colors of the team are brown, green, and yellow, the colors of the flag, and the wordmark logo, which was adopted in 1986, reflects the nation's colors, as well as the head in the middle of the flag.

The Founders also have an alternate logo, which is a gray oval with the Quentinian flag inside of it. This logo is most commonly used when a circular design is needed, such as on a plaque or statue, and is most notably used in the team's alternate and tournament uniforms. Some in the media including the Lindin Gazette, Lindin Observer, and Snowland Sports Magazine have suggested that the Founders change their logo to make the alternate logo their official logo, and have the logo on other uniforms. However some have countered this argument by saying the Quentinian flag is traditional, and extremely patriotic, and should not be tarnished by any other modifications. This argument is then countered by some who say no QRO team should be allowed to have the flag as their logo, as it is a national symbol, but neither the team nor the league has made any plans to change their logos.

Uniforms

Current Uniforms

The Lindin Founders currently have 4 uniforms, with a home uniform, away uniform, alternate uniform, and tournament uniform. Each uniform has both long sleeve and short sleeved versions, though all 4 always have shorts. The home uniform is a brown uniform, with yellow sleeves. It includes the city name, Lindin at the top of the front, and the logo of the team in the center. The shorts also include a miniature version of the Quentinian Coat of Arms, on the bottom of the left leg. On the back of the jersey is the name of the player, along with their number. All lettering and numbering on the uniform is in gray. The away uniform is mainly the same, except for different colors. The shirt is white, as per the uniform rules of the QRO, with yellow sleeves and brown shorts. The brown shorts also include the miniature logo, with the main logo on the front, and the word Lindin is above the logo, while the word "founders" is below the logo, both in green. On the back of the jersey is the player's name and number, both in green. The away uniform has been criticized and scrutinized by both the media and opposing teams, with some saying the jersey looks like a t-shirt, while others have nicknamed it the, "Condiment Streetwear Uniform," a rather elaborate nickname referring to the colors, which look like condiments of mustard and relish, and the fact the jersey looks like a t-shirt. Both uniforms are worn with green socks, and the shoes and accessories of the players' choice.

The Founders also wear two other uniforms, the alternate uniform and tournament uniform. The alternate uniform is a yellow jersey, with brown sleeves, along with a pattern of zigzagging green lines around the whole jersey towards the bottom. The word "founders" is in gray lettering at the top, outlined in black, and below it is the Founders' alternate logo, which is a gray oval with the Quentinian flag contained inside it. On the brown shorts is the miniature logo, and on the back is the player's name and number, both in gray outlined by black. The team wears these jerseys for primetime games, the first and last games of the season, and on holidays, as well as for the Champions Cup, if the team happens to make it a certain year. This uniform is worn with green socks and accessories of the players' choice. The tournament uniform is worn the least out of the four uniforms, and is only worn for tournament playoff games. The uniform is completely brown, and has lettering that says "Lindin" in green on the front, and the alternate logo of the Founders is also on the front. The miniature logo is also included on the shorts, and on the back is the player's number, along with green lettering saying, "For the Cup," referring to the Champions Cup. This uniform is worn with white or yellow socks, depending on the designation of the team as away or home.

Stadiums

Hufflepuff Stadium

For the first 20 years of its existence, the Lindin Founders organization used Hufflepuff Stadium as their official stadium. Hufflepuff Stadium was built in 1924, and was used by the University of Lindin for their numerous and successful athletics competitions. In 1945, in the agreement for athletic play with the city of Lindin, the Founders also were entitled to a stadium, which UOL agreed to share with the team for their inaugural season. The stadium had a capacity of 63,200, and the Founders moved out of the stadium in 1965 for a stadium of their own. Hufflepuff Stadium is still UOL's stadium, however was demolished in 2001 in favor of a new stadium by the same name.

Tennomore (Bank) Stadium

In 1965, the Founders built a stadium of their own, Tennomore Stadium, which was changed to Tennomore Bank Stadium in 1979 after its sponsor, Tennomore Bank. The stadium was located on the outskirts of the city, and was used for around 28 years, nearly 1/3 of the team's history. It was where the team developed its rivalry with the Vipers, and in one infamous game in 1967 a Vipers' fan brought live vipers to the stadium. The stadium was built at a cost of Ð4.5 million ($45 million) in 1965, with a capacity of nearly 76,700 fans. The last game at Tennomore was played during the 1992 season, after plans were approved by the city for a larger and newer stadium, built in the center of Lindin. The Founders won that game, beating the Fort McCarthy Liberators 280-260, with the Liberators sitting most of their starters.

Belt Overlook Stadium

In 1993 the Founders moved again, but for the last time, into their current stadium at Belt Overlook Stadium. The stadium is downtown, in the center of Lindin, and is named for the Lindin Beltway, which is the main highway in the city and which borders the stadium. The downtown location of the new property was one of the key factors in determining the move, as Lindin offered the team the property and funds for the stadium as owner of the team Bart Statt retired. The stadium has a capacity of 77,560, and is the 2nd largest in the division. Modern features in the stadium include its high definition video board, and modern upper ring, a common feature of Roofball stadiums today which includes a restaurant, seating, and numerous television screens on which to watch the game. The Founders played their first game in the stadium on August 15th, 1993, against their rivals, the Verisitium Vipers. The Founders managed to defend their new stadium and win the game, 340-280. The stadium's parking was refurbished and expanded in 2014, after Villager Stadium was built next-door, housing the Lindin Juggernauts and other events. Today the two stadiums share the parking lot. The total cost of the stadium ended up being Ð56.89 million ($568.9 million).

Songs, Mottoes, Figures and Traditions

The Lindin Founders' official fight song is On This Rock We Found Victory, written by Bobby Thompson in 1967. The song is sung at most home games, and is played after victory. Another tradition at the stadium is to fire a cannon after every quarter's end, and chant "Go Go Founders." A Quentinian flag, besides being flown at the top of the stadium, a rule in the QRO, is also flown above the upper roof and posted near the stands. The official motto of the Founders is "Dominating the League Which We Began." The Founders also have a mascot, George the Bigfoot, named after George Bigafeet, a founder of the nation from Snowland. The Founders also have cheerleaders, called the Lindin Founders Cheerleaders, who perform at each home game, and cheer on the team.
