Assassin's Square Market is a major center of commerce, tourism, and leisure, as well as being a neighborhood, located in lower Rodriguezville. The market is located on a large strip of land, square in shape, which is located in the center of a major intersection. The main road at the intersection is Marie's Road, which leads to the downtown area after connecting to the Compatriots Bridge, along with Corporal Street, Colline Avenue, and Downtown Abbey Circuit. A traffic circle surrounds the market, connecting it to nearly every part of the city. The market is colorful and extremely bright, lit up by numerous electronic billboards as well as the lights of vendors. Situated near the Mellion River, the market is world-renowned, and visitors come from across the world to visit the square's vendors, cultural events, and see the view of the city. Citizens of Rodriguezville often frequent Assassin's Square, as the area is a popular leisure and social hotbed. This includes the various taverns, holding gambling competitions, and other events the square's many vendors hold. Assassin's Square Market is one of thousands of markets in the United States of Quentin, the most renowned of these being the Haven Bay Circuits, Liberation Hall, Skyward Row, and the Kingpin Hub. All these markets hold similar events, attract similar numbers of tourists, and have the same purpose, however all are different in culture and atmosphere.

Originally established in 1902, the large intersection adjacent to Assassin's Square was created after city officials proposed a large plan funding development of the lower parts of the city. This plan was proposed mainly because of the poverty of the area, with numerous pickpockets and criminals being prevalent in the area, hence the name Assassin's Square. After the completion of the intersection, the Rodriguezville Town Panel held a vote on what to do with the empty space at the center, which was quite large due to the size of the intersection. Some officials voted for a new park, while others voted to create a city-funded business venture. The panel was gridlocked on the issue for nearly 7 months, and by that time street vendors and taverns had set up in the square. After the Assassin's Square Riots of 1904, where numerous occupants of the square fought off police attempting to take back the square, the city agreed with the occupants to sell individual plots of land to the people for a reduced price.

Assassin's Square Market attracts millions of tourists annually, in addition to Rodriguezville citizens who visit the square. Of the four other Quentinian market squares listed above, Assassin's Square Market is second in terms of visitors, behind the Haven Bay Circuits, although all five markets are close in terms of visitor counts. The square is a large part of the identity of the city of Rodriguezville, and along with the other market squares in the nation, is a major cultural landmark of the USQ as a whole.

History

Major Incidents

The Assassin's Square Market, although it has one of the lowest crime rates of any area in the city, has been the center of numerous major incidents over the years. These include the following:

  • In 1904, the Assassin's Square Riots resulted in numerous people dead, after city police attempted to retake the square by force.
  • In 2001, anti-nuclear protesters clashed with numerous members of the crowd in the square, who had taken to spitting at the protesters and verbally assaulting them. After a brief clash, police forces were able to break up the fight, which had resulted in the injury of 21 people.
  • In March of 2020, members of the Dragons of Quentinia Pact, an anti-Paladinian hate group, attacked a group of tourists, after seeing them using a Paladinian-made phone.
