Canoeing at the Sidus Dei Ludos is one of the major events at the Summer Sidus Dei Ludos. The event has been in place since its introduction at the 1954 games in Port Logan, Paladinia. There are two sub-events under the overall umbrella of canoeing, those being canoeing slalom and canoeing sprint.

Only one type of boat has been used in the sport since its inception, that being canoes with two canoers inside. Kayaks (those with more than 2 canoers) are not allowed at the event. There is only one slalom event at the competition, while sprint events include different distances, including 1000, 500, and 200 meters. Additionally, all events are split into men's and women's events. This leads to canoeing having 8 different events across two sub-categories. The most successful country at the canoeing event is Docneighland, which has topped the medal table for the event at 15 of the 34 games at which canoeing was an event. Following Docneighland is the Megatridimensional Order, which has topped the table at 5 separate games, along with New Dawn and the United States of Quentin, with three wins each.

History and Competition

Canoeing was first mentioned at the Sidus Dei Ludos at the 1952 summer games, with Comdantri Nortellus recently becoming an independent nation that same year. After those games, the SDL Administrative Committee decided to add canoeing to the summer SDL lineup so as to incentivize the entry of the Comdantri Nortellus into the games for the first time. Though the committee decided not to add the Comdantri sport of gridiron to the games because of its violence and the presence of football already at the games, the committee did add canoeing, which was first demonstrated at the 1954 games, and won by the Comdantri Nortellus team.

Like nearly all other sports at the SDL, there are no qualification rounds or other entry competitions to decide which nations may compete in the canoeing event. Instead, all 32 nations are seeded into a group stage based on national team ranking by the WCAF, and are then allowed to compete in the SDL events straightaway. The only national team to not compete in canoeing at the 2020 games was Telembria, which has no national canoeing team.
