M.O.D.S. III: Vengeance Day is a comedy action film made in 2017 in the United States of Quentin. Made by Trogen Motion Picture Studios, directed by Riley Oshmane, and starring Elizabeth Wilson, Milo Tylers, Shaun Quackers, Stephen Uriah, and Christina Law, the film centers around a group of specially powered people, Olivia Laurels (Elizabeth Wilson), Max Grappler (Stephen Uriah), David Sonnitraune (Shaun Quackers), and Steve Bizshtup (Milo Tylers). They are called M.O.D.S., and the movie is based on their attempts to defend the USQ and defeat a new enemy that has arisen, Jacqueline Vloychel (Christina Law), a.k.a. Miss Vengeance. It is also set in 2017.

Plot

The film starts off in 2017, and we see various news reports from the past 4 years. These include stories showing the battle in M.O.D.S. II: The Reciprocator against The Reciprocator, reports of the agreement M.O.D.S. has made with the government to protect The United States of Quentin, in exchange for various benefits and protection from arrest. Then music starts, (Guess What, I Got You) with the M.O.D.S. fighting against a group of terrorists who are wearing dark suits and brightly colored red armbands. The team fights the terrorists, with multiple comments on how they haven't had much free time since they started working for the government, and Steve Bizshtup (Milo Tylers) saying, "Jeez, yeah, now we're working for the feds everyone seems to wanna take a shot at us." The group fights, but the terrorists are making progress, and one throws a grenade into a nearby building. Max Grappler (Stephen Uriah) is in the building on the computer, and shouts in distress. He then runs over, gently picks up the grenade, and throws it out the window back at the terrorists, but it lands on a nearby car. He curses, then runs back to the computer. Meanwhile, the team outside is finally beating the terrorists, and they are defeated when Olivia Laurels (Elizabeth Wilson) teleports them all to Steve and David Sonnitraune (Shaun Quackers), and David shoots electricity at them, and Steve knocks them all down. They celebrate, and go to their headquarters to relax and hang out.

After they arrive at the headquarters, we then move away and see a woman in a cave, one just like the one we saw at the end of the last movie. She is tending to an old man, who is on the ground, moaning in pain. She tries to treat him by washing his forehead and rubbing a salve along his throat, and she encourages him to keep going, and not give up. However, he shoos her away and rolls over, still groaning, revealing that he is in fact Overlord Vloychel (Donnell Chexksjek) from the original M.O.D.S.. He looks at her and says, "It's no use. My time here is done." She attempts to argue with him, however he says, "I am going to die, whether you like it or not. Please, though, Jackie, I need one thing from you: Avenge me." With this he dies, and the woman, Jackie, lets him lay on the ground. She looks over at a suit of armor lying on a nearby workbench, and says, "I will, father. I will."

Back at the headquarters of the M.O.D.S., we see David and Olivia in their room together, and after a romantic scene between the two, we then go to the main area of the headquarters, where David and Olivia can be clearly heard in their room. We see Steve sitting there, reading a book, and Max enters. Upon hearing the two in the room, he slows down, and looks at Steve. Max then sits down on the couch, and awkwardly tries to talk to Steve, saying, "So... how's your book?" Steve replies by saying, "Pretty good. I'm finding it a little hard to concentrate, though," as well as glancing over at the room. Suddenly, a beeping noise sounds, and Max and Steve look over at the TV, which indicates that there is a huge fire happening in downtown BizTown, and that the M.O.D.S. are needed. Max says, "We better get Olivia and David," and glances at Steve. They look at each other for a moment, and both say "Not it," but Steve wins. So, Max goes over to the door and knocks softly, asking them very timidly to please come out, and that there's a mission call. We hear Olivia groan, and David curse, then Max goes to get his uniform on.

We then see the team arriving in BizTown, all in uniforms, and see a raging fire. The team rushes to put it out, and saves multiple people. Just as Olivia is teleporting up to a roof to save a dog, the girl from the cave appears and punches Olivia in the face. Olivia attempts to retaliate, but the woman disappears suddenly, and reappears on the ground. The M.O.D.S. group together, and Olivia asks the girl, "Who are you?" The girl then reveals that she is called Jacqueline Vloychel (Christina Law), the daughter of Overlord Vloychel. David says that Vloychel died, but Jacqueline, who calls herself Miss Vengeance, says that he lived. She then goes on to ask Olivia if she remembers stabbing Overlord Vloychel with the same knife that she was stabbed with. Olivia says, "Yeah, of course I remember. That %$@#!^% deserved it." Miss Vengeance then shoots a blast of fire at Olivia, which knocks her off her feet. Steve asks, "What do you want with us? And why the frick do you have powers?" Miss Vengeance then goes on to explain that the powers Olivia had were in her blood. So, when Overlord Vloychel was stabbed with the knife that Olivia was stabbed with, Overlord Vloychel gained Olivia's powers. When the Overlord escaped to a cave off the coast, he met Miss Vengeance there, and they soon realized what had happened, and that he now had powers. However, Overlord Vloychel was too weak to use them, and the both of them knew they must get revenge on the M.O.D.S. So, Overlord Vloychel injected his blood into Miss Vengeance, who then gained powers, and has been plotting to destroy M.O.D.S. After she's done talking, Steve says, "I'm sorry, could you just repeat that again? I was too busy focusing on your ugly *&^ face, I didn't have time to listen." Miss Vengeance says, "Excuse me?," and Olivia says, "Look, your dad died, you have powers now, I get your feeling of 'vengeance,' or whatever. But, you know there's no way you're going to 'destroy' us, so are you going to surrender quietly, and be taken off to live in General Schlager's Prison the rest of your life, or you just wanna get beat up and killed by us? Your choice." Max then says, "Wow, I guess this is what happens when she's interrupted to go fight." Suddenly, right after Max finishes, a fire blast fired by Miss Vengeance hits him in the chest, goes through, and he falls over, dead. Miss Vengeance says, "I guess I'm taking option number two, then." The M.O.D.S. run towards her, but before they get the chance to hit her, she disappears.

Immediately after, we see a scene in a laboratory that has The M.O.D.S. Logo on its wall, and Dr. Mary Amal (Emma Holders) is there, with the dead Max on a table, and the other M.O.D.S. sitting around, looking extremely bleak and staring off into the distance. Dr. Amal is running tests on Max's body, and delivers the results, which are that it was a pure blast of fire that was extremely powerful and deadly. Steve comments on how quick Max's death was, saying, "It was just so sudden. One moment he was there, making his usual jokes, smiling and snickering, then bam. He's gone." David asks Dr. Amal if she knows any of Miss Vengeance's other powers, and Dr. Amal says, other than the fire blast and teleportation, she can examine from the signature of the fire blast that she also has regeneration and extreme strength, along with intelligence, and who knows what else. She then proceeds to say that whatever is creating these powers is getting stronger with every human it passes through. David then says, "Well then, we better kill her before she gives it to someone else."

We then see a planning session with the group, including Dr. Amal. They receive bad news, which is that Miss Vengeance is now headed towards the capital, Mechanicsburg, and they try to figure out how to stop her. They come up with a plan, and a montage plays of them going through their roles, and it shows a view of Max's picture on a fireplace. After the group finishes planning, Dr. Amal shows them new, upgraded suits that she created that should be more resistant against Miss Vengeance's powers. They suit up, and with Dr. Amal's help, they track Miss Vengeance as being in Bakersfieldville. David says, "I thought Miss Vengeance was going to Mechanicsburg, and if she has teleportation, why is she in Bakersfieldville?" Dr. Amal says she doesn't know, but tells them to go, quickly, and Olivia teleports them all to Bakersfieldville. There, we see Miss Vengeance standing in town square, and attempting to fight off numerous soldiers from The Military of the United States of Quentin. We can see that the military is being effective, and Miss Vengeance looks severely wounded. Olivia asks Dr. Amal, who talking to them via comms, if she can see why Miss Vengeance isn't teleporting, and Dr. Amal says, "Hold on a second... yes! Well, it's ingenious, really, it looks like the military developed some sort of anti-teleportation device, look you can see it sticking into her knee!" Steve then says, "Are we gonna stand around here all day chatting and having a hot chocolate party, or are we gonna go up there and hit that $#%^&?" Suddenly, the group jumps into action, and runs towards Miss Vengeance. However, just before they reach the town square, Miss Vengeance sends out a huge blast of energy, that sends the M.O.D.S. backwards, and kills numerous soldiers.

As the M.O.D.S. recover, we can see Miss Vengeance has healed herself, and is walking towards them. Olivia attempts to tell her that what she is doing isn't vengeance, it's evil. She replies by saying she'll kill as many innocent people as she needs to to get to the M.O.D.S., and that if they just surrendered to her will, it would all be over. Steve gets up saying, "Not today," and swings a punishing uppercut blow towards Miss Vengeance's jaw, which lands, and then trips her to the ground. Once she's on the ground, Steve cracks her back, and leaves her crying out in pain on the ground. David then attempts to hit her with a full blast of electricity, which is on target, but Miss Vengeance puts up a shield at the last second, which is only mildly effective in shielding her from the blast. After being knocked a few yards backwards, she gets up, only to be hit in the face by Olivia. A big battle scene begins, with Miss Vengeance trying both to shield herself and hit the M.O.D.S. with blasts, who are all giving it their best effort, with Olivia knocking her off balance and appearing out of nowhere to hit her, David repeatedly shooting blasts of electricity, and Steve going through some of Olivia's teleportation holes to hit Miss Vengeance, as well as throwing cars and rubble at her. After a long fight, Miss Vengeance is hurt, and one of her blasts, either accidentally or purposefully, hit The Steven Tujler Tower, which has civilians in it. While the M.O.D.S. rush to save people and keep the tower intact, Miss Vengeance slips around a corner and disappears.\

After everyone is rescued and the building is saved from complete destruction, the M.O.D.S. along with Dr. Amal regroup and meet at their headquarters, all sitting around solemnly and reflecting on the battle. After each of them say something about Max, and they all remember how brave and dedicated he was, David brings up Miss Vengeance. While Dr. Amal says that she has been driven off for a while, and that they saved many people that would've otherwise been killed, Olivia says, "Yes, but we failed to stop her entirely. If she regenerates, and has time to train, she'll be back, and even more people will die next time." Steve then says, "You're right, Liv, but you saw how we kicked her ^&% today. She stood no chance against us. And besides, we won't just be sitting around eating chips and drinkin' Fraiten." David then replies, "He's right. When she comes knocking again, we'll be ready," and the movie ends.

Reception

Critical Response

M.O.D.S. III was recognized by many critics as being a divergent film, despite the M.O.D.S. series as a whole being classified as an archetypical superhero action series. This is mainly due to the corrosive and ill-tempered attitudes of the main characters throughout the film. While previous installments had portrayed the group as a misfit collection of antiheros, many critics noted the descension of insults and attitudes in this film into unappealing and displeasing immorality. A clearly intentional choice by the filmmakers, this unappealing theme strongly suggests that the group has become too caught up in the fame and swagger of their new lives, represented by the close cooperation the team has with the government (the establishment) throughout the film. On the other hand, as someone engaged in the clearly evil work of murdering innocents thanks to a years old grudge, Miss Vengeance is actually portrayed in a much more positive and sympathetic light, bringing a spirit of determination and certainty to a cinematic world too clogged with the bureaucracy and elitism that the M.O.D.S. once stood against. As a result of this thematic depth, numerous critics have applied anti-establishment, 20th century federalist, and civil liberties lenses to the film, with some in recent years even commenting on the film as pro-Paladinian in nature. While the filmmakers have said in the past that the movie was motivated by the writers' feelings on the good and bad aspects of the Quentinian spirit, the film's creators have come out in opposition to the idea that any expressly political or pro-Paladinian sentiments were involved.

Through it all, Max Grappler (portrayed by Stephen Uriah) is the voice of morality and reason in the film, recognized as the good parts of the Quentinian spirit. He is featured as respectful, humorous in the interest of cooperation, understanding, intelligent, and lovably awkward yet
