The World Trenchball Federation (or WTF) is the most popular trenchball league in the Republic of Megatridimensional Order, and has the highest average attendance of any sports league in the world. Its championship game, the Mega Bowl, is played on a national holiday called Super Mega Day, and ranks among the most-watched club sporting events in the world. The WTF consists of sixteen (16) teams, divided equally between the Republic Football Conference (RFC) and the Order Football Conference (OFC). The WTF's regular season runs from the week of Labor Day to Super Mega Day. Each team plays sixteen games. Following the conclusion of the regular season, three teams from each conference (two division winners and one wild card team) advance to the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Mega Bowl, played between the champions of the RFC and the OFC.

The WTF was formed in 1893. Recorded season statistics begin at WTF 1893.

History

The World Trenchball Federation was founded in 1893, in the Megatridimensional Order, for the purpose of organizing the trenchball play in the nation, and organize competitions of higher-levels. Trenchball itself developed from the sport of football, which developed across the 19th century and was played widely in the Order and most of the region, including the United States of Quentin, Telembria, and areas near the Comdantri Nortellus/Mortification.

Football originally itself developed from gridiron, a more brutal form of the sport played near the Comdantri Nortellus. Football, and then trenchball, was developed as a more formal and safe form of the sport, and rules were standardized with the creation of the WTF in 1893. These rules differed from standard rules today, however were the first written form of the sport. With the rules standardized in the summer of 1893, play began in the league for the first time that fall. Teams were formed from a combination of existing teams across the nation, with players coming from existing leagues as well as from towns where they had other jobs.

Corporate Structure

The corporate structure of the World Trenchball Federation is that of a private organization, with the WTF Committee ruling on league matters, rules, and other subjects. Composed of many officials, the committee has more power than other league organizations in the sense that it is the officiating body of trenchball across the world, according to the VU Bureau of Recreation. This is because trenchball is not played as widely in other areas, and thus the WTF dictates all rules and regulations for the sport across the world.

Inside the WTF, each team is granted a representative on the committee, and each team is also treated as an independent organization, in terms of finances and league politics.

Current Teams

There are currently 16 teams in the World Trenchball Federation, a number that has remained in place since 1920. Currently, the teams are divided into two conferences, the Republic Football Conference and the Order Football Conference, each with two divisions. These divisions are north and south. Each division is composed of four teams, for a total of 8 teams in each conference. Originally, the league had no conferences, however in 1894 the league was split into east and west for the first time. Over time, the current conference structure developed. During the season, each team is allowed 55 players on their roster, with 50 being eligible to be active on gamedays. Each team also has a separate practice squad.

All 16 teams are based in the 6 easternmost states in the MTO, those being Aggrovania, Cetacea, Crudumpascor, Justicar, Loam, and Mordant. Teams may infrequently play in other, more western states, however this is rare. The popularity of other sports, such as football and gridiron, in the western portion of the nation, as well as the lack of development of the west at the league's founding in 1893 have contributed to this lack of representation across the western half of the nation. All the teams in the league are included on the list of most valuable sports franchises, with all ranking within the top 50. The Tabula Rasa Riders have consistently ranked first on this list, at a value of around $8 billion.

The following are the current teams in the league, listed along with their conference and division, home city and state, stadium and stadium capacity, Mega Bowl victories, inaugural season, and current head coach.
