Hammershark (Matthew Spelger) is a fictional superhero appearing in many comic book series published by QUACK! Comics, as well as having an expected appearance in the QUACK! Studios cinematic universe. The character was originally created in 1969 by Jack Levy, and is the junior partner, or sidekick, of Green Sparrow. Hammershark first appeared in Lone Wolf #13, which told of his origin story and his first adventures alongside Green Sparrow in Lightning City, GA. In 2003 Hammershark parted ways with Green Sparrow, and though the two heroes still frequently fight together, Hammershark moved to Kumar City that year. Additionally, Hammershark is a part of the Knights of Life superhero group.

Hammershark's alternate identity is that of Matthew Spelger, a computer programmer from Port Clinton. While working at a computer company in the city at the age of 17, Hammershark was caught in a flood which overwhelmed the computer laboratory, and electrocuted Spelger to death. After falling into the ocean, Spelger was revived by a group of wizards led by King Gonk, and gained the ability to transform into a shark. After being chased to Lightning City by the wizard tribe, Spelger meets Green Sparrow, who agrees to help Spelger deal with his abilities. The two fight off King Gonk's forces, and Spelger decides to fight crime alongside Green Sparrow, adopting the intimidating name of Hammershark. As a shark, Hammershark has super strength and swimming abilities, as well as the ability to communicate with other sea creatures. While in human form, Hammershark is an expert fighter, using a spear to ward off enemies.

Before 2003, Hammershark lived with Green Sparrow in Lightning City, where the two fought crime. Like Green Sparrow, Hammershark frequently traveled to Port Clinton to fight crime there as well.
