Diving at the Sidus Dei Ludos is one of the major events at the Summer Sidus Dei Ludos games. The event was implemented in 1964, at the 25th summer games in Stevensburg, after diving had become a popular alternative aquatic sport in many nations. Diving is divided into men's and women's categories, with each category including the events of synchronized diving and solo diving for a total of 4 events. Diving is regulated and supervised both internationally and at the SDL by the Diving Organization of Venturia (DOV).

Currently, the Protectorates of Allia is the most successful country at the event, having topped the medal table in 15 of the 29 diving competitions. The United States of Quentin and New Dawn have also been successful at the event, topping the medal table six and five times respectively.

History and Competition

Events

Currently, diving at the SDL has a total of four sub-events, with each event capable of awarding three medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The sub-events are split into two categories, male and female, with each category consisting of synchronized and solo diving events. The solo men's and women's diving events are simply solo events, with competitors from all countries diving into the pool from a regulation 10 meter or 3 meter platform/springboard respectively. While diving, competitors aim to make a number of impressive moves, including acrobatic stunts such as twists and somersaults. After each competitor is judged on their form, stunts, difficulty and accomplishment, and form entering the water on each type of board, the winner is announced. The second event is the synchronized men's and women's events. These two events deal with synchronized diving, wherein divers line up with other divers from their own country, and dive in together. There is less emphasis placed on form in these events, though it is still important, and divers aim to produce the best choreographed entries and stunts that they can while entering the water. Synchronized diving was only implemented in 1988.

Judges at the Sidus Dei Ludos diving events are multinational, like at all SDL events, and must be certified by the DOV to ensure accuracy and lack of bias. Each judge gives a score for each competitor, and the average of all judge scores is given as the final score. Usually there are five judges at each event, but some years there are either more or less.
