The Citrus Trade Tax was enacted in 1807 by the government of the Republic of Megatridimensional Order. The tax was mainly against The Territories of Quentin, and was in existence from 1807 until 1830. The tax increased the price of all citrus items, which included fruits and vegetables, going in and out of the Territories. The Tax annoyed the Quentinians greatly, and helped to spark a fire in the Territories that would lead to their independence in 1830.

Effects of the Tax

The tax raised the cost of exporting and importing not only citrus foods as the name implies, but pretty much any fruit or vegetable. A full list is included in the full text of the tax at the bottom, however some of the main foods it included were strawberries, Refraberries, blueberries, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, oranges, limes, lemons, and lettuce. The original tax for these items was a mere ŧ1 ($1), but the tax heightened this price to around ŧ10 ($10), a lot of money at the time.

Historians agree that the tax actually had a reverse effect practically, as the MTO received most of its fresh produce from the Territories, and the Territories just had an excess of produce. However the tax had the intended result politically, as it showed the Territories that the government wasn't messing around, and they had the right to impose whatever laws they pleased upon the Territories.
